HISTORICAL SKI HILL HOUSE WALK
Sunday, September 23 from 11am to 4pm
This is a special tour of selected homes built on the site of the great Ogden Dunes ski jump
When: Sunday, September 23, 2007 11:00 am — 4:00 pm
In 1926 the Ogden Dunes Ski Club began building a ski jump that dwarfed the dune under its steel feet.
By 1935 the club declared bankruptcy, and the was jump dismantled and removed.
This is the story of the ski jump and the wonderful cottages built upon its soil.
Join us for a day touring the magnificent and charming homes of the historic Ski Hill Road. The tour features a wonderful combination of restored and expanded homes, as well as a few homes with modest or minor changes.
You’ll see the remaining concrete pillars upon with the jump stood. One of these has been turned into a birdbath.
Several homes have been dramatically restored but cues and remnants of the original architecture remain.
This tour begins at the Ogden Dunes firehouse, located just inside the town of Ogden Dunes located on highway 12 east of route 249 in Northwest Indiana.
Hints & Tips: Dress comfortably with comfortable shoes. The terrain is challenging due to unusual stairs. We regret is it not handicapped accessible. Due to the organizational complexity, there will be no rain date. Donations are tax deductible and always welcome. Water will be provided.
